The 2010 European tour was centred around the Centenary celebrations in Milan on June 26 and 27. An amazing route was mapped out by Richard Hampton which took us down through Burgundy and the mountains of the Jura, Savoy and Haute Alpes in France traversing 5 mountain passes over 2000m before crossing into Italy 60 km north of Nice and heading for Milan.
Over 3000 Alfa Romeos attended the celebrations with some fabulous cars on show.
The route back was even more spectacular, travelling north then east through Switzerland crossing another 4 passes over 2000m, the San Bernadino, the Fluela and Ofen made famous by Top Gear, and most famous of all the Stelvio. By this time we were all hairpinned out but it was on through Austria into southern Germany, through the Black Forest into the Alsace and over the Vosges mountains before heading north for Calais. A total of some 2000 miles in 12 days on great touring roads. A fantastic tour, well done Richard.
27 cars made the trip including Tim Buttkus' beautiful SVZ, 2 SZs, an SS, Peter Yaxley's Ti, and numerous Sprints and Spiders. Drivers came from as far afield as Argentina and the USA as well as more locally from France, Germany, the Netherlands and the UK and Irish contigent. A wonderful turn out by the Register.
All the newcomers commented on how much they had enjoyed the tour and how much they had been made welcome, making it easy to join in. So why not plan to join us on next year's European tour, details of which will be announced later this year. You won't be disappointed.
A full report on the tour will be made in the next issue of the Giuliettaletta due out in September. |

Blenheim Palace, Sunday September 5th 2010
We have been invited by the AROC Cotswold Section to join them at their COTSWOLD ALFA DAY which this year will take place at Britain's premier stately home, Blenheim Palace on Sunday September 5th. The Register created a stunning display at last year's event at Sudeley Castle, and it would be great to create an even better one this year to help celebrate the Centenary, so do come along and join us.
The event's format will follow that of previous years, with a meet up in the morning around 10am at The Inn at Fossebridge , followed by a scenic drive, the Giro Panoramico, to the main venue at Woodstock in Oxfordshire. The Inn is in a beautiful riverside setting on the A429 Fosseway about 6 miles north of Cirencester and 5 miles south of Northleach. Tea or coffee is included in the entry fee and other refreshments will also be available.
Tickets for the event are on sale now at £7.00 for adults and £3.50 for children aged 5-16, and by buying them in advance you will help AROC to allocate the correct parking area for us, and also save some money! For those who prefer to decide at the last moment 'advance tickets' will still be on sale at Fossebridge on the morning of the event, but anyone arriving at Blenheim without a ticket will have to pay the normal Blenheim Estate prices of £10.30 for adults, £7.70 for concessions, and £5.00 for children.
Tickets include access to two thousand acres of glorious parkland, the formal Gardens, and many other attractions including the popular 'Churchills' Destiny' exhibition. Entry to the Palace itself will cost an additional £7.70 for adults, £6.80 for concessions, and £5 for children on the day.
Tickets should be obtained direct from the Cotswold Section, by sending a cheque, payable to 'AROC - Cotswold Section' to Matthew Willmott, at 10 Cypress Road, Walton Cardiff, Tewkesbury, Glos, GL20 7RB. Please include an S.A.E. if you can.
For those wishing to make a weekend of the event, The Inn are offering a 10% discount on rooms for the night before. If you want to book a room please advise them at the time of booking that you are attending Cotswold Alfa Day. Their phone number is 01285 720721 and their website is www.fossebridgeinn.co.uk |

Come to the Register Mid-Summer Event!
Shelsley Walsh Sunday 18th July 2010
Shelsley Walsh Hill Climb has been chosen as the destination for our summer meeting to be held on Sunday 18th July, the day of the Shelsley “Classic” Meeting. This is the oldest motor sport venue still in use in the UK, and set in some of the most beautiful countryside in England.
It’s a great place to meet up and the MAC are organising a level, grassed display area which from previous experience will be perfect for our visit.
There will also be a unique meeting of Prince Henry Vauxhalls, and the “classic” (pre-1980) competition cars. The Register will be providing a delicious free lunch box if you book your ticket through the Club but you must do so by June 15 latest.
Arrive by 12 noon and you may win a prize with awards being made at 3.30pm. The categories are not necessarily for the shiniest cars and all cars are entered automatically. It will be fun, low key, and not too serious. Tickets are £15 a person for entry and a lunch box so send a cheque payable to 'The Giulietta Register' with your details to Paul Gregory, or pay online through PayPal. Simply click on the Shelsley Tickets link under the Links tab above!
Situated a few miles north of the A44 between Worcester and Bromyard, Shelsley is a lovely place to be on a summer's day.So there you have it. A free lunch and prizes, great cars, interesting people to chat to, a beautiful setting.......what more do you want! |

The Eighth running of BIAMF took place on Saturday, April 24th 2010 with Alfa Romeo as the featured car marque in honour of the centenary of one of the best-loved makes in the history of motoring. The Festival took place in the streets around Corn Street in the historic Old City area adjacent to the St Nicholas Market in the very centre of Bristol with all manner of exotic Italian cars and motorbikes. There was plenty to see and do for the less car-orientated, too.
